Matthew 6:33

Matthew 6:33 — “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Jesus spoke these words to people who were worried — about food, about clothes, about tomorrow. Sound familiar? Worry was their native language, just like it was mine for a long time. In active addiction, I chased everything except God first. I sought the next fix, the next escape, the next thing that would quiet the noise. And every morning I woke up emptier than the night before.

“Seek first” is a reordering. It’s God saying: put Me at the front of the line and watch what happens to everything behind Me. Not seek Me when the worry is handled. Not seek Me after you’ve figured it out. First. Before the phone, before the panic, before the planning.

Here’s the promise tucked inside the command: “all these things will be given to you.” The things you’re worried about right now? God already knows you need them. He’s not asking you to pretend you don’t. He’s asking you to trust that the Father who feeds the birds and clothes the flowers hasn’t forgotten your name.

Today, practice the “first.” Before you reach for anything else, reach for Him. Five minutes. One honest prayer. One open Bible. Let Him be first, and let Him prove Himself faithful with the rest.

Prayer: Father, I confess I’ve been seeking everything but You first. Today I reorder my heart. Your kingdom, Your righteousness — first. I trust You with all the rest. In Jesus’ name, amen.
