Be Strong and Courageous

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

God didn’t suggest courage to Joshua — He commanded it. Joshua was stepping into something far bigger than himself: leading God’s people into the Promised Land after Moses was gone. God knew the road ahead would hold battles and unknowns, so He gave Joshua something stronger than confidence in himself — He gave him a promise. I will be with you wherever you go.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s taking the next step while you’re still trembling, trusting that you’re not walking alone. Whatever you’re facing this week — a hard conversation, a new beginning, a step of obedience that scares you — the promise isn’t that the path will be easy. The promise is His presence on it.

Lord, when I feel frightened or dismayed, remind me that You didn’t command me to be strong and courageous because I’m enough — but because You are with me. Help me take the next step today, trusting that wherever I go, You are already there. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
